(PowerKorea) Yangsan City Volunteer Patrol Alliance set sail in 1998 and members have proactively engaged in patrolling every corner of the city at night with a strong will to prevent any possible crimes especially against women and children. The Alliance is consisted of 600 members from 14 regional offices.
Lee Jin-hee, President of Yangsan City Volunteer Patrol Alliance, has taken the steering wheel of the Alliance in 2018 and devoted much of his time in creating a better society.
“Alongside patrolling every corner of our villages at night, we organize stop-drink-drive campaign and make sure children are safe when crossing roads in school time. We are also working in cooperation with police and community centers to give extra protection for women and children at night” says Lee.
The Alliance received letters of appreciation from safe alley drawing contest and diagnosis patrolling in 2017 and for installing nation’s first SOS whistle for women in 2019 from Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency. Also, the Alliance listed name in the winners of the 3rd Korea Crime Prevention Awards and received a letter of appreciation from National Policy Agency for excellent autonomous crime prevention activities in 2020.
“I think it is important to keep a good heart because our willingness to do something good comes from it. I mean the willingness to help people in need and the willingness to protect the weak in our society. In my experience, those who give help feel happier than those who receive. That’s because we make ourselves worthy when helping people and when sharing what we have with others” says Lee.
Lee adds “Most of our operation expenses go to gas bill as patrolling is often made with vehicles. So, it might be helpful if local government can cover part of the cost. We are also willing to do quarantine in the area where a lot of people come and go but we don’t have equipment. So, it might also be helpful if someone can donate the equipment.”
