“Colors are lights, hopes and healing!”
Colorists are a group of specialists who raise added value of images through color coordination. They collect data relating to colors, give analysis and bring up ideal colors that match with a certain product, its character, its image and eventually the selling points. For example, you might conjure up ‘green’ when thinking Starbucks or ‘yellow and red’ when it is Ferrari.

For this reason, the role of colorists in this age of valuing the emotional feel of the product more than its functions are highly praised and demanded from many industries big or small. In this respect, Rami Colorist In Gang-nam’s winning of the 2018 Future Management Awards held on September 4th at Press Center Seoul, in the category of the global colorist, is but a noteworthy.

Hosted by the Herald Group (Herald Business and Korean Herald) and managed by monthly <Power Korea>, the awards find and reward competitive and promising companies, brands, organizations and individuals in an effort to establish better consumer recognition on products and services.

The roles and applicable areas of colorists can cover all most all industries and there seems to be a great increase in number of institutes that train future colorists. First opened in 2007, Rami Colorist In Gang-nam has fostered more than 2,000 talented future colorists with relevant certificates of which 350 with master or doctoral degree holders in chromatics.

The students at Rami Colorist in Gang-nam show a 95% pass rate thanks to Kim’s passion and systematic curriculum built based on her 14 years of single path as a colorist. She majored chromatics (master’s and doctoral) at Hongik University and her years of engagement in lectures and advisory services to video, fashion, environment and interior industries brought her the title ‘a revolutionary in the Korean color industry’.

It is notable that all teachers at Rami Colorist In Gang-nam are either master’s or doctoral degree holders in the field.

Kim in particular received a great praise from New Yorkers when she gave a performance themed on creating 1,000 kinds of rainbow colors at Union Square in July last year. She also draw an education and research agreement with Leatrice Eiseman, globally famous American colorist, in Seattle in order to lay a springboard for her pupils to grow as global colorists.

“Colors are lights, hopes and healing” says Kim who has engaged in charity and volunteer activities with color play and therapy for many years alongside regular donations to children with deprived background.

“It is the job of a colorist to make contribution to increasing sales volume of the product by color coordination. What is more important, however, is an understanding about the essence of the ‘light’ and its value which I think is the ‘life’ or ‘vitality’ if you like.”

Currently, Rami Colorist In Gang-nam is running innovative 10,000 color and mixing recipe, automatic color arrangement method and ‘every color system’ to differentiate its uniqueness on which Kim is working on color research and development in cooperation with companies home and abroad, while further level up her expertise through the CGC (Color Genius Club) to effectively foster global talents.
