Speech
Moon attended at the ceremony of the 73rd anniversary of Liberation Day and the 70th anniversary of Establishment of Government held at the National Museum of Korea in Yongsan where the Korea-US Alliance first started after the liberation.

2,200 people of all walks of life attended the ceremony including offspring of independence activists Park Whan-hee (granddaughter of Ha Jong-jin) and Shin Ki-jung (great-grandson of Kim Hwa-young) who hoisted the National Flag on the day.

Moon said in his speech "The government will find the independence activists whose name has still not been found, recognized and rewarded regardless their sex or roles. The complete finding, recognition and rewarding I think is the completion of our Liberation."

He added "The true meaning of our Liberation also comes from establishing peace on the Korean Peninsula with possible economic community with the North for co-survival and co-prosperity. We can achieve denuclearization and make strong economy if we walk hand in hand towards a new world of peace, prosperity and happiness."

Moon then rewarded medals to a total of 177 patriots and independence activists and showed his great respect.

Handwritten letter
A special envoy of the Blue House visited the North to deliver a handwritten letter of Moon to Kim on September 5. The envoy met Kim in the morning, handed it over and discussed on the current issues of the South-North relations.

An agreement on 4 things has been drawn as a result: 1) holding Inter Korean Summit on 18 to 20 September at Pyongyang to check on implementation of the Panmunjom Declaration and measures for establishing permanent peace and co-prosperity 2) making sure of Kim's firm will for denuclearization and for close cooperation with the South and the US 3) continuing the dialogue for easing military tensions and measures for preventing any possible armed conflict 4) opening a joint liaison office before the summit.

The details and the results of the visit are to be reported to the US. Moon praised the results of the visit for being better than expected and said "I look forward something bigger at the coming summit and the subsequent North-US dialogue with fruitful results."
