문재인 대통령, 동계올림픽을 만들어가는 기자 및 자원봉사자 격려

문재인 대통령 내외, 쇼트트랙 경기 관람∙선수들 응원
지난 17일, 문재인 대통령도 강릉 아이스아레나를 찾아 선수들의 질주를 직접 응원했다. 문재인 대통령과 김정숙 여사는 17일 오후 7시부터 쇼트트랙 여자 1,500m 예선을 시작으로 쇼트트랙 남자 1,000m 결승까지 약 2시간 30분간 아이스아레나 경기장에서 선수들을 응원했다.
문재인 대통령은 선수들의 이름을 연호하기도 하고, 관중들과 하나 되어 파도타기 응원으로 힘을 보태기도 했다. 패널티 여부를 판가름하는 동안 선수들과 한마음으로 전광판을 지켜보고, 충돌과 같은 예상치 못한 상황에서는 안타까운 표정과 동시에 끝까지 격려의 박수를 보냈다. 문재인 대통령은 모든 경기가 끝난 후, 시상식까지 자리를 지켜 각각 금메달, 동메달을 획득한 최민정, 서이라 선수에게 축하의 뜻을 전했다.

문재인 대통령 평창 내·외신 기자 및 자원봉사자와 만남
문재인 대통령은 같은 날 평창메인프레스센터(MPC)를 방문해 2018평창동계올림픽대회 홍보에 큰 도움을 주고 있는 국내외 기자들을 격려했다. 이 자리에서 문재인 대통령은 평창올림픽의 의미를 다시 한 번 언급했다. 
“가장 중요한 목표 중 하나가 평창올림픽을 평화올림픽으로 만들겠다는 것입니다. 우선 북한의 올림픽 참가로 우리 한반도에 고조됐던 긴장을 완화시키고 평창 올림픽을 안전한 올림픽으로 만들어내는 데 성공했습니다. 남북 단일팀과 공동입장, 공동응원 등이 전 세계인에 깊은 감동을 주었습니다."라며 남북관계 개선의 기대를 비췄다. 
이어 “미국․북한 간에도 대화가 필요하다는 공감대가 조금씩 높아지고 있습니다. 지금 이뤄지고 있는 남북대화가 미국과 북한과의 대화 비핵화로 이어지기를 기다리고 있습니다.”라고 말했다. 남북정상회담 계획을 묻는 한 기자의 질문에 문재인 대통령은 “(남북정상회담에 대한) 많은 기대를 하고 있는 것으로 알고 있지만, 마음이 급한 것 같습니다. 우리 속담으로 하면 우물가에서 숭늉 찾는 격입니다.”라고 답했다. 
더불어 문재인 대통령은 “설 명절인데 가족과 함께 하지도 못하고, 설 연휴를 즐기지도 못하고 이렇게 고생들 하셔서 정말 고맙다는 감사 인사와 격려 말씀을 드리고 싶어서 왔습니다.”라는 인사를 전한 뒤 “우리 기자님들이 올림픽을 내가 취재했다는 걸 두고두고 자랑스러워할 수 있는 올림픽으로 만들겠습니다.”라고 말했다. 
평창 메인프레스센터(MPC) 방문 후, 문재인 대통령은 강릉에서 평창올림픽의 또 다른 영웅, 자원봉사자들과의 만남을 이어갔다. 강릉의 운영인력 식당을 찾은 문재인 대통령과 김정숙 여사는 자원봉사자들과 함께 식사를 하며 고마운 마음을 전했다. 문재인 대통령은 “자원봉사자 분들이 우리 대한민국의 얼굴이 돼 주셨습니다.”라며 “더 노력해서 여러분들이 두고두고 평창올림픽에 함께한 것을 자부할 수 있도록, 그리고 또 오늘 자원봉사의 경험이 여러분들이 살아가는 데 경력에 있어서도 큰 도움이 되게끔 최선을 다해 나가겠습니다.”라고 말했다. 
문재인 대통령과 자원봉사자들은 식사를 하며 자유로운 대화를 나눴고, 도중에 한 자원봉사자가 문재인 대통령의 이름을 연호하는 등 화기애애한 분위기가 이어졌다. 식사 후, 문재인 대통령은 사진 촬영 및 악수 요청에 응하며 자원봉사자들의 노고를 격려했다.

Moon and First Lady watch and support Korean short track team
President Moon and First Lady Kim Jung-sook watched and supported the Korean short tract team in Gangneung on 17 last month. Moon and Kim watched the preliminary round of the short tract 1,500m female followed by the 1,000m male. Moon shouted out names of the team members every now and then in gesture of support and joined the round of waves alongside the watchers on the stadium. Moon and Kim stayed until the games are finished and delivered their congratulations to those who won the medals. 

Moon encourages reporters home and abroad at PyeongChang 2018
On the same day, President Moon paid a visit to PyeongChang Main Press Center to encourage reporters home and abroad and delivered the meaning of the PyeongChang 2018. “It is most important to manage the PyeongChang 2018 in peace till the end. We already succeeded drawing the North into the games and eased down the tension. And it created a massive effect to spread a touch to the people of the world by entering the stadium in the same uniform symbolizing ‘One Korea’ and by giving joint cheers for the games. We need to use this good mood to the dialogue between the North and the US and eventually lead the North to be nuclear free.” When asked about the summit between the two Koreas, Moon said “I think it is a bit too early to hold the summit yet” implying that some things must be done prior. Moon continued “I would like to express my thanks to you, reporters, who work day and night despite the Korean New Year’s holiday.” After visiting the press center, Moon moved to meet volunteers at the dining area. Moon and Kim showed their thanks to volunteers and have a meal alongside them. Moon said “You are the face of Korea. I sincerely hope the experience you have today will be of better use in the future and I will do my best to make that happen.”
