GS25, Korea Development Institute for Self Sufficiency and Welfare, and Korea International Hunger Action, sign an MOU on 5th August. At the signing ceremony, GS Retail discussed detailed plans to operate some of GS25’s franchise stores as “Happy Stores” and use them as incubation centers for young people preparing for independence to enter society. The agreement includes: GS25 will provide Happy Store sites and training services; the Development Institute will support the identification and linkage of actors to operate and participate in Happy Stores; and Hunger Action will provide customized training and promotion to activate Happy Stores.
From retailer to community contributor
Young people participating in the GS25 Happy Store program will be provided with opportunities to work at GS25 Happy Stores and mentoring services from GS25 employees for career and employment. In addition, they will also receive various support benefits such as educational expenses, vision support, and employment and startup success allowances provided by the Korea Self-Reliance Welfare Development Center. GS25 and the two organizations will initially focus on young people preparing for independence in areas with a high proportion of single-person households and young adults, such as Gwanak-gu and Gangseo-gu in Seoul, and then expand the scope of the project to various local governments. GS25 plans to open two stores in Gangseo-gu and Gwanak-gu, Seoul, as Happy Stores within the year, and will expand the number of stores in the metropolitan area, and even offer franchise fee exemptions to young people who have experienced Happy Stores.
