CiLab is a South Korean underwater drone technology leader established in 2017. The company has contributed to localizing underwater exploration robot, underwater sensor and a variety of underwater equipment alongside autonomous driving technologies. With these accumulated knowledge and experience in the field, CiLab is pushing forward development of underwater drone and unmanned surface vehicle control systems. The images filmed or recorded is saved and uploaded in the company’s main server to manage and operate overall controls. Also working on at the moment is manless vehicle control platforms that can also be used in various fields while robotic engineering in particular is bringing forth actual use of ballbots, bikebots, single wheel robots and four legged robots.

“Apart from development of innovative futuristic robot technologies and systems, we are also working, with a great sense of duty, to develop educational materials that can be used to equip talented young future robot engineers” says Yosup Hwang, CEO of CiLab.

[IWD3 and IWD6]

IWD3 is an underwater drone developed by CiLab. Founding a number of drawbacks of IWD3, a team worked on measures for improvement and introduced IWD6. IWD6 gives a better underwater search and investigation, underwater ecology watch, uploading locations and status, and remote operation and control. For this, the team loaded dual cameras and a more stable control system in IWD6. IWD6 is receiving great reviews from users at the moment. The images and information on underwater environment is sent to the company’s ANB (Ai Natural Eco Big Data Platform) to be used as reference. In fact, it is in its initial stage but has promising prospects for customization as the data is being piled up.

[Awards and Exhibitions]

In recognition of its contribution to advancement of South Korean underwater drone technologies, CiLab received the SMEs and Startups Ministerial Prize at the Innovation Winner 2021 held at the Seoul Press Center on November 19.

“It is such an honor to receive this big prize from the ministry. We take this as an encouragement that we should keep working hard to localize these advanced technologies. We actually have drawn fruits in controller, propellant and GUI and are working on commercialization. We will keep doing our best” says Hwang.

Prior to the Awards, CiLab demonstrated its excellence at the 2021 Daegu International Future Auto EXPO held 23 to 26 November and the Robot Sale Festa held 7 to 10 October this year. The company introduced CiLab X1 at the auto expo and CiLab X1 and underwater drones at the festa. The demonstration of CiLab X1 attracted a great excitement from the visitors and the audience and the team is much encouraged to push forward its research and development for more upgraded functions and performance.

“Korea is a peninsular. The west sea has fast current and murky water, the east deep and cold and the south dramatic. If our technologies work in these different underwater environments, we believe that they can also work anywhere in the world. While we are determined to do our job, I hope that the government would provide more necessary support.” <PowerKorea>

PowerKorea is an official partner of Herald Corporation. The magazine is distributed to the KOTRA business centers in the world. PowerKorea publishes latest news of government, Samsung, Hyundai and LG and endeavors to serve a platform to engage with people around the world.
