The Korean Committee for UNICEF launched a donation campaign under the theme ‘what would you do if you have 3 days to live?’ The campaign comes with a 3 day note for participants to write down what they would do. Choi Si-won, Special President of the Korean Committee for UNICEF said that the event was organized for people to realize how valuable their life is and the campaign was promoted on social media with encouragement of people to have unforgettable 3 day note for life.
Some of the notable names to have joined the campaign were: Former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Former Prosecutor General Kim Su-nam, actor Lee Sun-bin, designer Lee Chung-chung, Picaproject Gallery CEO Song Ja-ho, architect Jo Byeong-su and webtooner Jang Hye-won.
According to Water for All report, 1.42 billion people including 450 million children in the world are living where water is lack. In other words, one in five children in 80 countries cannot have necessary daily amount of drinking water. West Africa showed highest level of 58% followed by Central Africa 31%, South Asia 25% and the Middle East 23%. Children in 37 African countries are in urgent need of drinking water.
A UNICEF 2017 report predicted one in four children will suffer from water shortage until 2040. For this UNICEF is launching Water for All Initiative to supply safe drinking water to where it needed.
UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta Holsman Fore said that we needed to solve water crisis in front of us and move fast to prevent the situation going worse; we should work together and bring innovation and investment for sustainable services and we must act for children and earth now.
