Pork ribs are common food on the stable in South Korea especially when family or friends gathered together. Gangneung Poongnyeon Gabli was first opened in 1998 as a small restaurant in the city and it has grown as one of the hottest restaurants in Gangenung.

The restaurant uses 100% pure pork ribs only and pigs are less than 90 day old female hogs. The ribs go through ripening for two days before seasoned with apple, pear, garlic, ginger and starch syrup. 150 portions are prepared daily to keep freshness. It is notable that they are not attached pork ribs commonly found in may pork rib restaurants but they are pure pork ribs as they are.

The restaurant is located in Soondobu-ma-eul, Chodang-dong, and has 200 seats. One might think it is a cafe rather than a restaurant due to the inviting and resting ambience. The charcoal used at the restaurant does not produce harmful gas yet keeps the unique smoked meat taste intact. Thanks to this excellent taste and quality, renowned people of the world who attended the PyeongChang 2018 visited the restaurant and a German state-run broadcasting station filmed an interview.

CEO Ah Jeong-ho gives incentives and scholarship to excellent staff including part timers and donates 5 million won (4,479 USD) to a local baseball team every year. He recently bought a 1,652 square meter land to build the city's first food village.
