As the optimal alternative to overseas studying in the pandemic era, Incheon Global Campus(IGC) invited Diplomatic Corps. to its campus for the 5th time following its past successful famtour invitations during last 4 years on Nov. 3rd(Tuesday) 2020.
This year's invitation was more significant & meaningful than any previous invitation programs ever in terms of the fact that IGC invited Diplomatic Corps. comprising of top Excellencies & senior diplomats over 25 persons among the so called prevailing pandemic era.
It was very noteworthy that Kyrgyz Amb. Dinara Kemelova as the capacity of the Dean for the visiting Diplomatic Corps. mentioned today's famtour programs to IGC was very useful, informative and last but not least very interesting to boost educational cooperations between Korea & all participating diplomats' respective countries beyond just the Kyrgyz Republic, wrapping up their tour on the bus en route from Incheon.
IGC secures class rights & safety of its students
Anyhow, visiting ambassadors & diplomats were welcomed at its campus public pavilion by IGC Operation Foundation CEO Mr. Baik Ki-hoon & its dedecated staffs.
During his welcoming speech, Baik first of all stressed that IGC has secured their class rights & safety of its students as a result all executives & staffs of IGC responded with the safeness of students as their most preferential priority.
It is true that in fact, students studying abroad or any students who were preparing their studying abroad were suffering from considerable confusion and anxiety because foreign countries' universities blockcaded their entry due to the so called Corona 19 virus spread.
Nevertheless, IGC guaranteed their living rights of students by operating its convenient facilities rather such as dormitory & restaurant etc. and ensured safely up to their class rights by opening its library and class rooms, according to Baik.
Through her return remarks as the Dean of the visiting Diplomatic Corps., Kyrgyz Amb. Dinara Kemelova said that we Ambassadors & diplomats understand IGC is expected to contribute to the development of Incheon and Korea through the revitalization of the creative economy by providing high-quality global education.
In that regard, we participating Ambs & diplomats hold great expectations for educational cooperations between Korea and today participating countries' Ambs & diplomats from the perspective of mutual benchmarking etc., she added.
The programs of SUNY Korea focus on the field of STEAM
Diplomatic Corps' first visit among IGC's 4 campuses took place at SUNY Korea.
Welcoming their visit to SUNY Korea full heartedly, SUNY Korea president Mr. Wonki MIn explained at its Museum of Modern Costume: "The programs of SUNY Korea focus on the field of STEAM(Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics/Management) and more importantly, they cover the subjects that are essential in this era of 4th industrial revolution".
From the perspective of SUNY Korea which offers esteemed programs of the worldly renowned SUNY universities: Stony Brook University(SBU) and Fashion Institute of Technology(FIT), following media coverages deserve to draw attentions from both students & diplomats as well.
According to SUNY Korea, Stony Brook University has been ranked No. 45 among all U.S universities in the QS US unjversity Rankings 2020, placing its in the top 6% nationwide. This stellar showing highlights Stony Brook's continued upward trajectory as a premier American public institution, according to the comments from SUNY Korea officials.
Secondly, FIT ranked at or near the top of numerous recent lists. accrding to SUNY Korea.
SUNY Korea said these lists are often influential with students and parents in choosing colleges although the myriad college rankings released each year can't capture the richness and complexity of the FIT experience.
UAC continues to build on the exceptional academics!
The University of Utah Asia Campus was the second briefing venue for the visiting diplomats.
In its briefing hall, Dean of Faculty Mr. Gregory C Hill who serves as Chief Administrative Officer of Utah Asia Campus underscored Advancing UAC, naming following things for example such as share the vision of UAC (Industry-Academic Cooperation, faculty-students cooperation etc.)
As I began my tenure, my goal was to continue to build on the exceptional academics and strong traditions already established at UAC, he said. So we will continue to be student-centered, faculty and staff-focused, and community-minded, he added, touching upon Community impact(serve the needs of the community), developing the well-rounded students, community service opportunities, student experimental opportunities including internships, scholarships, research collaborations), & post-graduate opportunities etc.
Mr. Gregory C Hill pointed out that we know a quality educational experience can occur in myriad ways, and we believe COVID-19 has provided opportunities to expand those.
More importantly at George Mason University, a lecture by UAE Amb. Abdulla Saif Alnuaimi was provided by way of offline & online so that the lecture can be exposed to more many students at IGC.
In his introductory remarks, Dr. Robert Matz, Campus Dean of Mason Korea introduced George Mason University's student-focused approach leads to success amidst a global pandemic. So George Mason Songdo Campus welcomed the largest freshmen class throughout the year since its opening in 2014 while on the other hand, the total number of new students in 2020 reached 224, which is more than 20% growth from last year, according to Matz.
Touching upon UAE-ROK relations during his lecture session, UAE Amb. Alnuaimi mentioned about the foundation of UAE, UAE culture, UAE's position as a member of Gulf Cooperation Council, UAE's phase as a multi-cultural nation, etc.
In particular, the UAE is famous for its diversified tourism spots: museum, deserts, clean sand & safari, clean beaches, camel rides, traditional markets. etc., UAE Amb. said, adding youth generation is also an essential partner in the development and building of civilizations.
With regard to UAE's standpoint to solve the Middle East region's conflicts during his lecture Q&A session, UAE Amb. Alnuaimi replied that UAE seeks to solve the Middle East's pending issues & conflicts by pursuing peace and tolerance.
Ghent challenges itself & potential students!
Last but not least, last briefing venue for visiting Diplomatic Corps. was Ghent University Songdo Campus.
Ghent University Songdo Campus president Mr. Han Tae-joon welcomed guests, saying that GUGC(Ghent University Global Campus) wants to challenge itself and potential students to have big ambitions which make a difference in the world, by his welcoming remarks.
President Han pointed out that your ambassadors & diplomats' help are needed as a bridge to connect between Diplomatic Corps. & Ghent University Global Campus so that more many your respective countries' students can learn at GUGC, Incheon Korea in light of the fact that the majority of GUGC students are from Korean.
In his briefing session, Prof. Michael Dunne from GUGC touched upon the most successful recruit rate during the period of 2014-the present among 4 campuses, the Korea's initiative in North-South Marine Global R&D project, and 3 majors such as Environmental technology, Food technology, and Molecular Biotechnology.
