The Korea Development Institute predicted the people aged more than 65 will take 20% of the whole populations in South Korea by 2026. In other words, both the government and individuals should plan their life after 65. Entrepreneurs with keen eye have already started introducing services for the aged people and one of them is long term care service at convalescent hospitals.

The Magus Medical Foundation is a South Korean sliver care specialist that runs Magnus Residential, Amstrong Sanatorium, and Magnus Convalescent Hospital through which the foundation provides accommodation, cancer treatment and rehabilitation services.

From western medicine to natural remedy and alternative medicine, almost everything a patient needs is there in contemporary buildings. The services of the foundation has been proven to be excellent considering the fact that about 23% convalescent hospitals closed the business in 2018 and around 200 of them close down every year.

Magnus Convalescent Hospital runs 202 wards under the strict safety and hygiene rules. Visitors might get surprised by clean buildings and environment and above all no unpleasant smells. As a Christian foundation, the services are built on devotion and healings of wounded heart and soul are as important as physical stability.

Uisup Sohn, President of the Magnus Medical Foundation, worked for Yuhan Co from 1976 to 1981 and was scouted by a foreign pharmaceutical company. He built extensive knowledge in extraction of mushroom mycelium and widened his knowledge further to social welfare at Hansei University and administration and complementary and alternative medicine at Hanzhong University. It was 2002 he founded Magnus Convalescent Hospital under the slogan ‘hard working and attention to detail’.

He wrote a doctorate thesis at 63 but it was included in the excellent thesis by the Korea College of Hospital Administrators. As a man of generous heart, he also built a bread factory in Myanmar.

Sohn, however, pointed out overflowing of convalescent hospitals in South Korea makes the market hard to get by and the quality poor, adding that, he hoped the government should bring up effective solutions in terms of medical fee and the salary of caregiver for the sick in accordance with inflation rate.

When asked of future plan, he said that he would very much to introduce an itinerant service so that more people in need of care benefit from their services.
