TSD is the new technology to improve Korean sewer construction system

“One that controls water controls the world” has been quoted many and often by people from long time ago to today. Where there is water, people gather. Where there are people, there happen civilizations. The first sewer that dealt with waste water recorded in history was in Mesopotamia. Remarkably, the sewer is similar to the ones we use today which means that people in those times also had high level of techniques. The one in Indus, for example, was installed in both sides of the street and they were connected to each household to let out waste water. 

In Korea, the first recorded sewer was in Cheonggye Stream in 1412 but the purpose was more of prevention of flood. It was from 1918 to 1943 that the 4 times of the 225km long sewers were built. Korea’s sewer is built based on temporary facility method which was not suitable for small space and caused problems relating to sink holes. 

Seeing the problem, Yoon Taek-gyu, CEO of Jinpyeong, started to have interest in pipeline jacking method from 2016 and developed his own TSD (TeleScopic Direction keep semishied) last year which is in the process for patents. Yoon says that TSD saves cost and also works well for limited space. 

Yoon majored in education at Hanyang University and worked for 10 years in the field. He joined a waterproof company in 2008 and started to engage in civil engineering from 2009 during which he succeeded obtaining 17 patents. This opened his eyes wide to a great ability hidden deep down in him. Subsequently, he established his own business in 2012 and turned it into a corporation in 2016. The name Jinpyeong came from the town Jinpyeong-dong in Gumi City where he lived for a long time. Jinpyeong is specialized in reinforcement of the slopes and related methods. In 2018, Jinpyeong introduced TSD. 

TSD is praised for reducing the installation cost and small space-friendly which uses 200 to 300mm sewer pipes. 

“TSD can easily adjust the shape and the level, and has excellent propelling power for a long distance. The great straightforwardness on the uneven ground with various different soils and rocks, and less installation space, also is a great advantage” explains Yoon.

“In addition, the installation is automatically done underground by using 2000mm type propel gate and reaching gate without the existing method that requires digging up the earth at the initial stage.”

“What is more, TSD does not cause land subsidence and damages to the surrounding buildings so there is no need to worry about safety incidents thanks to the vertical steel pipe casting method. Cost-wise, TSD is the cheapest method in terms of the retaining wall methods and the construction period also is shorter.”

With this innovative TSD, Jinpyeong is expecting to make 100 billion won sales within 5 years. TSD is already being used in a number of projects of local government and the Korea Environment Corporation at the moment; and the demand seems to be increasing. As part of this plan, CEO Yoon already is using his civil engineering majored son as the chief staff of the company to grow the business together. 

“I hope Jinpeyong’s technology, especially TSD, will make a contribution to creating a better sewer system in South Korea so that the government and citizens alike can benefit cost-wise” says CEO Yoon.
