There is a saying: Go to the museum to see the past, go to the market to see the present and go to the library to see the future. Gyeongtae Park, the Democratic Party Youth Committee head, wittily changes the last part to: Meet the young people of the nation to see the future of the country. Who are the young people he is talking about? They are the young people who have professionalism in the field and representativeness of the field.
As a young politician, Park sees the existing organizational system in South Korea as closed and limited. It might sounds as cliché as it could be for good old people, but it is very important for young and willing people like Park to bring creative ideas on the round table. As the head of the youth committee, Park thinks it is his role to lay a foundation for ambitious young ones like him to spread their wings to make our society better.
Park has three tasks to fulfill: 1) bringing measures to problems 2) promoting rights and standing 3) strengthening organizational system. What are the problems here? Park points out jobs, housing, childrearing, debts and startups. How does he solve these issues? Park’s initial stage is to lay a channel for young leaders of the 5 major political parties to work together. As actions are stronger than words, Park is determined to work in the field, but not at the desk, and engage with young people, talk and bring up measures in cooperation. The Democratic Party’s <1st Young Avenue> is the result of this. The communication platform <1st Young Avenue> is supported by its web magazine <Youth, Here>.
Park learned a lot from his past where he had to challenge many inconveniences of the inefficient administrative system. He faced too high a wall to start a business when in high school and experienced the hassle of securing student loan when in university and drank a bitter cup when trying to make a presence in the political circle because he was a rookie.
Gathering these experiences, and melted them into his sense of duty as the Democratic Party Youth Committee head, Park is but determined to build a strong foundation and a channel for ambitious and wiling young people who will bring changes to the political world and our society in South Korea.
