Food coordinators are people who set up the table, plan and prepare parties, and design the dining area. Like cooks take care of food, food coordinators take care of dining ambience. Lee Su-yeon is the president of the Korea Food Culture Design Association and a food researcher and developer. She is a food broadcaster and has written <$5 Table>. However, she is most famous as a food coordinator.
She opened a cooking studio near Seongnam Pangyo Library in 2013 and has been organizing meetings for cooking and parties. She designed the studio with the tables and props she has collected while traveling the world. Also, the studio is functioning as the headquarters of the Korea Food Culture Design Association.
People from all walks of life from housewives and cooks to florists and tea specialists are traveling to the studio to learn food coordination. Food coordination not only is about setting up the table and livening up the mood of the dinning but also about manners and codes of having a meal which is different from country to country. Those who successfully finish the course are given a certificate of finish.
Lee has run a number of cable TV cooking channels, worked as a reporter of KBS Hometown Report, and launched ‘Kimchi Nine’ in 2019 with actress Kim Ji-young. Kimchi Nine used plum extract and pear instead of sugar to give clean taste; it was a great hit among young people and it was sold in cans for convenience. Encouraged by this Lee launched Sokcho Dabs Rice Juice and Yeonggwang Chili Paste Yellow Corvina which were another hit, and they were sold like hot pies at homes shopping channels.
In 2018, Lee and those who finished the food coordinator master course held the 1st Art in the Life at the KEPCO Art Center and the event attracted a great attention from visitors. In recognition of her contribution to fostering talented future food coordinators in Korea and to development of the industry, Lee received the 2019 Korea Value Management Awards held on March 25 at the Seoul Press Center.
