The Ministry of Education introduced the School-Based Enterprise project in 2015 in order to support in-school startups. The Bucheon University’s Visual Image & Game Contents was selected for the project on which the department launched the in-school enterprise ‘Jeppet Studio’. Specialists in 3D animation, image/education/VR contents, and merchandizing have been actively engaging in Jeppet to bring substantial results.

Field-based training
Jeppet Studio realized limitations to equip students with skills needed for the real industry and therefore invited specialists in each necessary field to its ‘short-term academy program’. Professor Kim Yang-su, the team leader of Jeppet Studio, said “The job training is run based on beginners and intermediary. The results of students are made into their portfolios based on which the feedback and awards are given from the university. This process is designed to motivate students to actively engage in contents creations.” Students in 3D animation and motion graphics drew substantial results after the 5 day program and were given awards, prize money, and job place for those who wanted.

Customized training
To look at the details of 3D animation program, the academy used 3Ds Max to give down-to-earth techniques on interface, 3D animating production, presentation and feedback. Lee Joong-ho, CEO of Jepet, an authority of 3D animation, gave a lecture as part of the instructor team. As for the motion graphics, the academy used After Effect to give trendy information on Youtube and online imaging also relating to interface, motion graphic productions, presentation and feedback. Yoo Seung-bo, CEO of The 1991, an authority of motion graphics, took the podium to teach student in this field.

Thanks to this excellent springboard, Jeppet Studio is sending average 10 students a year to mid and large companies in each respected field. Kim said “This can be interpreted that companies are valuing the student’s career at Jeppet Studio. In recognition, Jeppet Studio received a ministerial citation from the Ministry of Education at the 2018 Industry-University EXPO’.

Commercialization
Jeppet Studio made the pilot project 3D animation ‘Adventure of Kongkongi’ with China as the targeted market. It is consisted of 52 episodes and investments are being made in China for production of full feature.

“It is unprecedented among the school enterprises. If we can draw substantial amount of investment in China, it will have great implications for the related industry. Students of the Bucheon University’s Visual Image & Game Contents will engage in production of full featured animation” said Kim.

Meanwhile, Jeppet Studio is preparing to open an office in China considering the high demand of the local market. Opening an overseas office will create a synergy to Jeppet Studio and Bucheon University alike, Kim prospects.
