Samgyeopsal (port belly) undoubtedly is one of the most enjoyed menus in Korea. When added bean sprouts to stir fry, the taste goes beyond heaven. But the menu has been so popular and some people find it boring a bit. Reading a new demand for pork belly, CEO Lee Kang-noh of Ohsamsuki introduced a differentiated menu which brought him a success to have opened 3 stores within a short period of time.
Sillim-dong, Seoul, is famous for good restaurants that fill up the hunger stricken normal people of the day at an affordable price. The flagship Ohsamsuki is nicely located here and its beef and pork belly menus had made dinners waiting their queue within 5 months of opening the business.
The basics of the menus are nothing special but bean sprouts, pork belly, beef and kimchi. What makes these simple ingredients great is at the tenderness of the meat and self-developed special sauce.
Lee has engaged in the dine-out industry since 1993 and worked as a consultant and a supervisor before opening Ohsamsuki in December 2013 in Bongcheon-dong, Seoul. It was 2016 he relocated the restaurant to the current spot with bigger space. “I handed out flyers by myself every day for one year since opening the business except rainy day. I was confident with the menu and service and I was convinced that it was only a matter of time to gather people around my restaurant.”
The self-developed sauce also took a great part in turning the business a success. Diners can level up or down the spiciness and mix a piece of meat with the sauce on a plate. Some of the popular menus to try are ‘wosuki’, ‘samsuki’, ‘wokongi’ and ‘samkongi’.
The table is being taken care of no matter how busy the restaurant is and the mixed rice at the end of the finish also is done by the staff. Try 99% natural cheese-themed flying fish roe mixed rice for you cannot help but “wow” once tasted. Some dinners say that the greatest sauce of all at Ohsamsuki is CEO Lee’s witty jokes made time to time.
