You might find a hint of unpredictability, liberty and unique energy when appreciating the works of artist Kim Eun-ki. He is famous for large scale works sized more than 333 × 248mm mainly done at his studio in Jungsu Art Town, Jinju City.

Kim finds liberty at contemporary art and uses the canvas with his unique styles. "The reason I use thread on the canvasis part of my efforts in drawing new expressions over the mannerism where many artists often fall into without knowing themselves."

Looking closely at his works, you can find various forms of thread marks mingled within or sides of the colors and lines. He sticks the threads, gives a coloring, waiting for them to be solid, and then takes them off and gives another coloring. Due to this difficult procedure, many of his works require a considerable amount of time to be completed.

"Many of my works are themed on the subject 'Story in a solar system'. I find inspiration in the solar system and gather variety of stories to shift onto the canvas in various expressions" explains Kim.

The solar system for him is the source of all living things and the only existence that embraces both light and darkness. The sun is only one but its figures could be tens of thousands for the living things on earth. Kim explains that his works are the expressions of the positivity of hope and the negativity of darkness but in the form of co-existence.

"The planet earth is a dot in this vast universe and the citizens of the earth fight each other for their own profits. However, their distrust, conflict and own ideologies are destined to be dusts at the end of the day. And this is the reason I want to overcome these limitations and travel towards freedom."

The story in a solar system made up of 30 works in this respect is his ambitious project that took him a year and it created an explosive response from the appreciators at the first solo exhibition held in Do-Ol Art Town, Insa-dong, Seoul.

Taking the momentum of this great success, Kim pushed his engagement in various follow-up exhibitions taken place in Busan, Bundang, Changwon and Jinju alongside more than 10 times of solo exhibition.

In 2015, he joined Scope New York, one of the three art shows in the US, and received a positive response; it was an opportunity for him to spread his name in the global art world over Korea.

Continuing his zeal, he joined the GFA Art Show held at Trump Golf Club, US in 2016 and the AAF Milan Art Fair the same year followed by the BAMA Busan Annual Market of Art, Busan Art Show and the U.S. GFA Collection (in-house artists exhibition).

His works are being housed at Air Busan, Korea Swiss Chemicals, Bumseo Miracle in Yangsan City, Jemakigong, and private collectors in France. You might also have seen his works on a number of TV dramas <The Great Wives> and <Tomorrow Victory>.

In 2020, his work sized bigger than 333 × 248mm titled 'Moon on 11 Waters' is scheduled to be installed in the lobby of APARK (efficiency apartment in Busan).

Meanwhile, he is preparing to hold another solo exhibition December this year at the KBS Gallery Busan.
