The Embassy of Argentina to Korea held the 8th Malbec World Day Professional Tasting at Millennium Seoul Hilton on Thursday, April 19 at 1.30 p.m. under the title “You Know Me and You Don’t. Mablec World Day is celebrated on (or around) April 17th globally. A story goes that Former Argentinian President Domingo Faustino Sermiento asked a French soil expert to bring over new vines to Argentina in an effort to transform Argentina’s wine industry. The soil expert brought vines accordingly and amongst was his selection of Malbec. Malbec is a purple grape variety used in making red wine. The soil expert, Michel Aime Pouget, experimented with the French varietals to Argentina’s diverse terroirs. Malbec flourished in this new home land and proved widely superior to those of its country of origin. Malbec made its outstanding position in Argentina’s exportations during the ‘90s and it became globally popular today. According to H.E. Ambassador Jorge ROBALLO, Malbec has become so popular that many wine lovers of the world naturally reminds of Argentina when hearing ‘Malbec’ for its deep reddish velvet color, rich fruity flavor and balanced body. Malbec takes 57% of the whole exportations of Argentine wines and is one of the symbols of the country alongside tango and football. 16 Korean importers representing 20 wineries of Argentina displayed a variety of kinds of Malbec on the day. I also tried several kinds of Malbec and I personally liked ‘L10 Premium’ Malbec the most for its dry taste; it coasts KRW 100,000 a bottle. A special performance of tango livened up the mood on the day and a couple of tango dancers kept in step with passion in accordance with an Argentine music. If you do not know about wine much or have not tried Malbec yet, H.E. Ambassador Jorge ROBALLO highly recommends you to try this ultimate wine of Argentina for you will be charmed by the enchanting taste.
