세계 최초 의류패턴 곡선구현 ‘자동생성시스템’ 기술로 스마트한 패션 IT시장 이끈다

집집마다 재봉틀로 양재를 배우던 19세기 미국에서는 재단사 버터릭(Butterick)이 그레이딩(표본을 사이즈별로 확대·축소)한 패턴(옷본) 인쇄들을 통신판매하며 유행하는 드레스를 여러 사이즈로 입으려는 대중들의 욕구를 실현시켰다. 그리고 2017년, 마침내 박음질이 아닌 손가락 터치만으로 나만의 부위별 사이즈에 맞는 패션코디 DIY도 가능한 시대가 왔다. IT기술과 결합한 세계 최초의 신체치수 자동생성시스템을 개발해, 혁신적인 패턴제작법을 제안한 ㈜이퓨인터내셔널 차미영 대표의 기술로 이제 개인 체형에 맞춰 옷을 만들 수 있게 된 것이다.

쇼윈도의 신상 옷을 입고 있는 모델은 대개 인구의 10% 내외라는 55사이즈, 혹은 완벽 사이즈의 몸매를 가진 마네킹들이다. 그래서 끌리는 디자인을 보고 매장에 들어갔다가, 혹여 몸에 맞지 않아 마음에 상처를 입은 경험이 한 번이라도 있었다면 반드시 기억해야 할 이름이 있다. 창립 4년 차를 맞이하는 ㈜이퓨인터내셔널의 차미영 대표는 똑같은 패턴을 비율에 맞춰 크기만 바꾸었던 기존의 그레이딩 식 옷본(패턴) 제작공정을 획기적으로 바꾼 장본인이다. 패션계에 몸담은 경력이 30년인 차 대표는 디자이너로 10년 활동한 뒤, 일본에서 인체공학과 의류패턴 연구를 전공한 후 귀국해 패터너가 되어 세종대, 건국대, 한성대에 출강하면서 5년 전부터는 IT기술을 접목한 신기술을 본격적으로 개발하기 시작했다고 한다. 차 대표는 2015년 정부과제인 신체치수 자동생성시스템 개발에 성공한 뒤, 현재 의류패턴 자동생성시스템, 스마트 패션 코디 서비스 등의 특허출원 및 원천기술을 갖고 있다. 남녀 마네킹 150개를 직접 제작하고 한국인 600여명의 신체를 연구해 개발한 이 기술들은, 손으로 그린 패턴을 디지타이저로 컴퓨터에 입력해 사이즈와 디테일을 고치는 것이 아니다. 이는 입력되거나 사진촬영으로 산출되는 치수에 맞춰 개개인에 맞는 패턴을 출력하는 방식이다. 차 대표의 기술에서 가장 눈부신 것은 이퓨캐드인데 특히 그전에는 없었던, 원하는 곡선을 자동 생성하는 캐드기술을 최초로 완성한 것이다. 석사학위 중 아이디어를 낸 차 대표에게 일본교수가 공동연구를 제안할 만큼 패션 패러다임을 바꿀 것으로 기대되는 이 기술은, 사진 몇 장으로 즉석 캐드가 가능하며 치수를 입력하면 패턴을 무한 생성할 수 있다. 즉, 패턴을 제작하기 위해 직접 찾아가야 하며 가봉 후 수정을 반복하는 맞춤복과 기성복 샘플 제작의 공식을 모두 깨뜨린 것이다. 저렴하지만 골반에 맞추면 허리가 안 맞고, 허리에 맞추면 기장이 안 맞는 기성복과, 오뜨꾸뛰르 계의 고가이자 재단에 시간이 많이 걸리는 맞춤옷 제작방식에서 장점만을 취해 IT의 편리함을 더한 것이 바로 ㈜이퓨인터내셔널의 신기술이다.

<2017 대한민국 세계여성발명대회>의 금상 및 미래창조과학부 장관상을 수상한 차 대표는 어디서나 촬영만으로 자신의 신체치수를 알 수 있는 스마트폰 앱 ‘노바디’, 촬영 후 측정된 치수대로 원하는 디자인에 맞춰 옷을 제작해 보내주는 ‘퓨레이퓨’, 신체치수를 저장해 두었다가 마음에 든 옷을 촬영하면 자신의 체형에 얼마나 잘 매칭되는지 분석해 주는 ‘노바디 코디’의 상용화를 준비 중이라고 한다. 그리고 시스템 개발 과정에서 많은 이들의 치수를 측정하며 둘레, 길이, 너비, 두께, 높이, 각도를 자동생성하여 평균오차율을 길이 5mm, 각도 1도 내외의 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 또한, 원단의 재질과 색의 기호도, 옷의 피팅감 등을 조절해 A, I, X, V형처럼 정형화된 신체타입을 규정하는 빅데이터 대신 정확한 산출치를 생성하여 활용할 수 있게 했다. 패션장비와 원단전시회인 <2017 프리뷰인 서울>에 참가해 노바디 앱으로 촬영하고 이퓨캐드로 패턴을 자동 생성하는 기술을 선보여, 세계 388개 회사 중 싱가포르 언론 선정 탑3에 당당히 선정되기도 한 차 대표는 2천여만 원 선의 고가 캐드 장비를 사용할 때보다 섬세하고 정확한 곡선을 구현해 이스라엘, 일본 등 세계의 많은 업체 관계자들의 동업 제안을 받기도 했다. 일본 유학시절 같은 동양인들끼리도 체형이 전혀 다르다는 것을 알았으며, 해외진출 후에는 외국인들의 체형을 분석해 더 정확하고 다양한 패턴을 그릴 수 있을 것이라고 하는 차 대표는 “패션계에서도 앞으로는 수요 중심이자 소량의 옷도 맞춤 형태로 저렴하게 만드는 4차산업혁명이 대세가 될 것이다. 패턴 자동생성기술로 제작, 피팅, 판매 분야 등 패션계 내에서 다양한 협업관계도 가능하기 때문에, 디자인 브랜드와 제작 공장, 판매회사가 유기적으로 연결된 패션 생태계를 만들 것”이라고 강조했다. 이렇듯 낯선 분야에서 신념을 갖고 연구해 새 기술을 완성하고 상호연계 제작이 가능한 원천기술보유 패턴 전문회사를 이뤄낸 차 대표는, 옷에 몸을 맞추는 대신 몸에 옷을 맞추는 디지털 DIY 패션의 편리함과 가치를 보여주고 있다. 차 대표는 사업화 과정에서 기술을 다른 패션업계에도 적용할 것이며, 캐드판매보다는 스마트폰 앱을 이용한 ‘패션 온 디맨드(FOD)’라는 새로운 수요중심 서비스플랫폼을 대중화할 것이라고 전한다. 이러한 구조는 디자인, 패턴, 생산, 배송이 수평적인 관계로 이루어져, 기존의 제작과 판매에서 고객이 구매하는 수직관계와 전혀 다른 디자이너, 패터너, 봉재사, 공장, 브랜드, 유통회사가 유기적으로 협업하는 패션생태계가 될 것으로 기대된다.

The mannequins in the shop windows draw us in the shop with its perfect 55 size. However, we are soon disappointed at realizing the difference in size and turn our back to the exit. If you have had the same experience, you need to pay attention to Ifu International established four years ago. CEO Cha Mi-young of Ifu International is the one who innovatively changed the clothes making process. She boasts 30 years of experience in the field and worked as a clothes designer for 10 years. She studied ergonomics and clothes patterns in Japan. When she came back to Korea, she started to work as a patterner and taught students at Sejong University, Konkuk University and Hansung University. It was five years ago that she launched development of IT-driven new technologies. Cha developed ‘body size auto-generation system’ which was a government task in 2015 and has applied patents for auto-generation system and smart fashion coordinator. Cha developed these technologies by making 150 male and female mannequins and studying the body sizes of 600 Koreans. The technologies are not about repairing the size and detail by inserting hand-drawn patterns to computer with digitizer; it prints out the customized patterns according to the measures came from inserted data or photos. What makes Cha brilliant, however, is the development Ifu CAD, the world’s first CAD technology that can auto-generate desired curves. Just a few of photos can make instant CAD possible and it can generate patterns limitlessly when inserted measurements. In other words, we do not need to pay a visit to dressmaker anymore to measure the size or repeat the fitting-mending process. Ifu CAD extracted the advantages of ready-made clothes and made to measure and combined them with convenience of IT. 

‘FOD (Fashion on Demand)’ platform makes the manufacturing and cooperation simple
Cha received a gold prize and the Science and ICT Ministerial prize at the 2017 Korea International Women’s Invention Exposition. She is preparing for commercialization of ‘Knowbody’, an app to measure one’s size with photos, of ‘Fureifu’ which makes a clothes based on the size and of ‘Knowbody Codi’ which analyzes body shape and fit. The auto-generation system measures circumference, length, thickness, height and angle within the error rate of 5mm length and 1 degree angle. It also generates accurate matching on texture, color preference and body type of A, I, X and V. CEO Char recently participated in Preview in Seoul 2017 and demonstrated auto-generation technology with Knowbody app for filming and Ifu CAD for creating patterns. As a result, Ifu International was chosen for the top three among 388 participated companies by a Singaporean media and CEO Cha was offered of partnership from companies in Israel and Japan. “The future fashion industry will see the 4th Industrial Revolution in a way of producing small number of customized clothes. The auto-generation system makes cooperation in fitting, production and sales more effective and it will create a good industry ecology that organically connects the brand, the factory and the store.” It is truly innovative that Cha shows us the convenience of digital DIY fashion that fits the clothes to the body instead of fitting the body to the clothes. Yet the Cha’s innovation does not stop here; she is preparing to commercialize ‘FOD (Fashion on Demand)’ platform that makes the manufacturing and cooperation simple through a smart phone app. The platform is expected to create an organic cooperation system between designers, patterners, needle workers, factories, brands and distributors by overcoming the existing vertical relations between manufacturers, stores and customers.
