사주의 10년 대운과 운칠기삼의 굴곡을 보완하며 합리적으로 분석하는 철학관

사주의 근거는 명운살((命運煞)의 요소들을 분석하고 삶의 전환점을 지적하여, 오는 부귀를 잡고 액운을 방지하는 데 있다. 생로병사의 이치 안에서 잦은 사건들을 예측하는 명리학은 점과 미신의 영역이 아닌, 주어진 운명에 체념하기보다 좋은 방향으로 바꾸어 가려는 ‘희망’의 학문이다. 대구철학관 해경원의 서순향 원장은 이러한 학술적 예측을 토대로, 생활 밀착형 사주풀이와 작명, 길일을 조언하며 사주의 대중화에 기여하는 학구적인 명리철학자이다. 

사주와 운을 따르는 것도 중요하지만 올바른 작명은 사람에게 더욱 길하다

사주와 성명학에서 중요한 60갑자와, 명리학을 바탕으로 연월일시의 4기둥과 그 사이의 8글자를 지칭하는 8자인 사주팔자는 음양오행이 회전하는 물리적인 이치에 따라 반복되어 인간의 길흉화복을 예지하는 이치가 된다. 서양에서는 천문학과 점술이 상호작용해 왔다면, 동양에서는 천지만물의 개념으로 인간의 삶을 해석해 왔기에, 인간의 출생요소에 따라 결정되는 사주는 운칠기삼이라는 말처럼 개인의 운과 삶의 궤적에 따라 조금씩 변수가 있다. 대구철학관 해경원의 서순향 원장은 이러한 삶의 궤적을 탐구하며 타인의 삶에서 잠재력을 이끌어내는 명리철학자이다. 서 원장에 따르면, 장소와 태어난 곳의 차이, 입춘 기준으로 바뀌는 연도로 한 인간의 평생운과 초년운의 기반이 되는 년주가 정해진다고 한다. 그래서 이 사주를 세우고 월주를 기준삼아 10년 주기의 대운을 세우는데, 60갑자가 되는 일주로 정해진 뒤 기한이 지난 운은 바뀐다. 따라서 연·월대로 혼인과 자식, 이민처럼 큰 운은 정해져 있지만, 일·시와 같은 작은 개념에서 운명이 바뀌기에 금(金)이 강하면 수(水)를 보완하는 식으로 바꿀 수도 있다는 말이 된다. 서 원장은 바로 이 개념에서 명리학과 사주가 출산과 길일 택일에 필요하다고 한다. 또한 아무리 좋은 사주를 갖고 태어나도 그것이 30년 이상 간다는 보장은 없으므로, 대범한 이들에게는 적극적으로, 걱정이 많은 이들에게는 완곡하게 전하는 식으로 이런 사주를 언급하고 개운(開運)의 지침을 줄 필요가 있다. 그래서 서 원장은 작명과 개명을 할 때도, 이름은 사람을 대표하기에 뜻과 불리는 어감이 모두 좋아야 하고, 좋은 사주에 운이 더해져서 70%의 명운이 갖춰진다면 나머지를 이름으로 보강한다는 관점을 갖고 있다. 이 점이 외부 요인의 변화를 받아들이며 공부하는 서 원장의 방식이 철학과 학문의 영역에 당당히 놓인 이유다. 

초심 잃지 않는 대한민국의 미래 기원하며 명리학자들의 위상 높이는데 주력할 것

학원 사업가 출신으로 오래 전부터 사주명리를 공부하여 이론과 실전, 감각을 갖추고 해경원을 시작했던 서 원장은, 음양과를 둔 조선시대에는 명리학자들이 공무원 대우를 받았으나 시대가 바뀌면서 명리학의 정확성이 변질되는 경우가 생겼다고 한다. 출생택일의 12지지 시주(태어난 시각)에서 원래의 30분씩 뒤로 미루는 정통 명리학과 달리 종교인이나 프랜차이징 사주를 보는 곳에서 입춘, 윤달윤년을 비롯해 이 법칙을 적용하지 않고 풀이하는 경우가 그런 사례다. 서 원장의 경우는 사주를 보면서 정통 공식에 충실할 뿐 아니라, 해석에서는 고독살이라 부르는 진술축미(辰戌丑未)가 과거에는 천민계급인 예술가였지만 지금은 연예인 사주로 높이 평가받는 것을 감안해 현실적이고 합리적인 풀이를 한다. 또한 이러한 풀이에 바탕을 준 작명과 개명에서도, 가령 토(土)의 오행을 지닌 아이에게 12글자 조합 중에서 겨울 출생일 경우 땅이 얼어붙는 조합 수(水)가 맞지 않는다는 식으로 명확하게 접근한다. 학원을 운영할 무렵 많은 인간관계로 각 나이대의 사람들이 원하는 해결책, 연령별로 맞닥뜨리는 고민을 잘 알게 되었다는 서 원장은 자신의 경험을 토대로 특히 아이들의 진로문제로 고민하는 부모들, 시댁문제와 결혼 및 출산을 앞둔 여성에게 좋은 상담역할을 자청하고 있다. 또 명리학자는 언제나 사회현상에 관심을 가져야 한다며 대학원에 진학해 박사과정을 밟고, 유명 언론사에 다수의 칼럼을 게재하기도 한 서 원장은 부동산, 매매, 전입전출과 이민에서 정계 진출, 국운분석 같은 굵직한 이슈에서도 대가다운 통찰력을 보인다. 2년 전부터 대한민국의 국운에 대해, 바닥을 칠 일이 있으며 이후로 차츰 올라갈 것이라는 풀이를 남긴 서 원장은, 헌정 사상 첫 벚꽃대선으로 복잡한 국제정세의 한 가운데에 선 대한민국이기에 모두가 초심을 잃지 말아야 한다고 강조한다. 내년에는 부익부 빈익빈의 기운이 들고 있기에 힘을 합쳐 극복해야 한다는 것이다. 마지막으로 서 원장은 크게는 명리학의 전문화, 학문적 접근으로 후학을 양성하고 대중들에게 널리 알릴 저서 편찬으로 명리학자들의 대우와 위상을 높이겠다고 공언했으며, 다음에는 사회진출을 시작하거나 가정에 둥지를 튼 여성들을 향해 일이 터진 후보다 미리 방문할수록 인생선배로서 도움을 줄 수 있다는 소박하고도 따뜻한 충고를 아끼지 않았다.

Saju is based on analyzing the elements of one’s fate, indicating the turning points of life, catching the coming wealth and rank and preventing misfortune. Saju, different from fortunetelling or superstition, predicts frequent incidents within the reason of birth, aging, illness and death and it is the science of hope intended to turn a person’s fate in good direction rather than yielding to it. President Seo Soon-hyang of Haegyungwon, Daegu, is a studious saju philosopher contributing to its popularization by interpreting life-oriented saju, naming and giving advice on an auspicious day based on such scholarly predictions. 

Right naming is more important than following saju and fortune for man. 

The cycle of sixty, which is important in saju and name science, and the Four Pillars of year, month, date and hour and the Eight Characters referring to eight characters between them repeat themselves according to the physical reason of the revolving Ying and Yang and Five Elements and become the principle in foretelling a person’s good and ill fortune. While astronomy and fortunetelling have been interactive in the West, the East has interpreted human life with an idea of all things in the universe. So saju, which is determined by the human elements of birth, involves a little variation in accordance with personal fortune and track of life as shown in the phrase of seven-fortune and three-will. Seo Soon-hyang, president of Daegu Haegyungwon is a saju philosopher who inquires such a track of life and derives potentiality from another’s life. According to president Seo, a person’s lifelong fortune and yearly saju basing the fortune of beginning years are set by difference between a location and a native place and by the year changing based on the first day of spring according to the lunar calendar. That is why this saju is set up along with a large fortune in a decade cycle based on the monthly saju, but the out-of-date fortune changes after it has been set in the day saju which becomes a cycle of sixty. Therefore, it follows that though a large fortune such as marriage, children and emigration has been set by the range of year and month, it is still possible to change destiny in the small concepts like day and hour, that is, by supplementing water if metal is too strong. President Seo emphasizes that it is this idea that requires saju in choosing the date of birth and a lucky day. Besides, however good saju one may be born with, it is hard to hold true for more than thirty years, so it is needed to mention such saju positively to the large-hearted and obliquely to the small-hearted as a guide for improving their destiny. So when naming and renaming, president Seo has an idea that since a personal name represents the person, it must be good both in meaning and sound and that if 70 % of the fate is ready by adding fortune to good saju, she must supplement the remainder with name. This position justifies the system of president Seo, who makes study by accepting the change of outside factors, for the area of philosophy and scholarship.             

Will endeavor to raise the position of sajuists in a constant wish for future Korea 

Coming from business person in private academy, president Seo worked on saju since a long time ago and opened Haegyungwon by being equipped with theory, practice and sense. She says that though sajuists were treated as officials in the period of Joseon when there was a section of Ying and Yang installed, something has deteriorated the accuracy of saju science with change of times. Unlike legitimate saju which puts off 30 minutes from 12-hour saju (time of one’s birth) in choosing the date of birth, religious men or franchising fortunetellers often make an interpretation without applying this law, including the first day of spring and a leap month and year. President Seo not only keeps to the orthodox formulae of saju, but in interpretation, she makes a realistic and rational explanation considering that Jinsoolchookmi, also called a solitary fate, referred to artists in the lowest class in the past, but is now esteemed high as saju for celebrities. Besides, in naming and renaming based on such interpretations, she makes a clear approach by indicating that, if a child possessed of earth as the Five Elements is born in the winter, it is not in agreement with water, a combination of freezing earth, for example. President Seo who says that while running an institute, plenty of human relations enabled her to be familiar with solutions and worries confronted by each age group, is particularly putting up herself to parents worried over a child’s future career and women having difficulty with the family of their husband or with marriage and childbirth ahead as a good consultant, based on her own experience. Besides, believing that a sajusist must always take interest in social phenomena, she took a doctor’s course in a graduate school and carried a number of columns on a famed media outlet, while showing a masterly intuition in issues such as realty sales, moving in and out, emigration, advance to political arena, and even analysis of national fortunes. As to the national destiny, president Seo interpreted two years ago that it was going to hit bottom and then rise up gradually. She emphasizes that all must maintain their original intention because Korea has become the center of the complex international situation by the first cherry-blossom presidential election in the constitutional history. Next year, Korea is further going to see the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer and she says we need to overcome this by standing together. Finally, president Seo declared openly that she would rear students by specialized and academic approach to saju science and write a book to promote this field to the public and raise the treatment and position of sajuists. Then she gave a simple and warm advice toward women who would start a career in society or settle down to family life that an early visit enough will be good for a senior in life to help them, rather than after experiencing a difficulty.
